Spring Break

I hope you enjoyed Tia York's visit. Did you learn anything or have any of your views confirmed about television news? Post comments below.

Assignments for March 23
  • Bring in a copy of a magazine or similar publication that you can imagine yourself being published in (even if it's not in this lifetime).
  • Memo updating me on the status of your group project will be due.
  • Read Chapter 18 on web design
Meanwhile, here's a good quick read: Seven things you should never say to your boss.

Enjoy Spring Break!

Tia's presentation confirmed most of my views regarding television news.

I enjoyed learning about the structure of the half hour show and how planned out every 5 minute interval is.

The exercise of having to write a news story in just a few minutes was enlightening. I never thought in terms of having to write something so fast. All the promos on the news shows for "coming up next..." now make sense. They need us to stick around for ratings credit. Writing good teasers is as important as writing the news story. Thanks to Tia for giving us the inside story on writing for TV news.
